The international scientific meeting, titled Sex, Steroids, Fat and Breast Cancer, took place at the iconic Uluru Meeting Place in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in late August.

More than 30 prominent researchers attended, notably Prof Richard Santen (University of Virginia), Prof Kenneth Korach (NIEHS), Prof Carole Mendelson (UT Southwestern), Prof Mala Mahendroo (UT Southwestern) and Prof William Rainey (University of Michigan).

The event was a satellite of the Endocrine Society of Australia’s annual scientific meeting in Adelaide, and a festschrift for Prof Simpson.

Hudson Institute researchers Associate Professor Colin Clyne, Dr Simon Chu, and PhD student Xuyi Wang also gave presentations at the event.

In addition to world-class research, researchers took advantage of the majestic setting to network.  Highlights of the gathering included a sunrise viewing of Uluru, and a Sounds of Silence dinner in the outback with a traditional indigenous dance, didgeridoo performance and star gazing.

The event was organised by Kristy Brown and Colin Clyne (Hudson Institute) and Wah Chin Boon (The Florey Institute), and supported by the Hudson Institute, Monash University and Pfizer.
