MIMR-PHI researchers receive Australia Day Honours

MIMR-PHI Professors John Funder and Peter Fuller have been awarded honours in the 2015 Australia Day honours list.
Professor Funder, a Distinguished Scientist at MIMR-PHI Institute, was awarded an AC for eminent service to medicine, particularly to cardiovascular endocrinology, as a renowned researcher, author and educator, to the development of academic health science centres, and to mental illness, obesity, and Indigenous eye-health programs.
Professor Funder joined Prince Henry’s Medical Research Centre in 1973 where he went from Senior Research Fellow to Senior Principal Research and Deputy Director. In 1990 he became Director of the Baker Institute in Melbourne and, upon his ‘retirement’ in 2001 he became a Senior Fellow at Prince Henry’s Institute and a Distinguished Scientist at the MIMR-PHI Institute when it merged in 2014. From 2008 to 2011 he was also Director of Research Strategy at Southern Health (now Monash Health), Victoria largest health service.
Professor Peter Fuller, the Associate Director of MIMR-PHI Institute and Head of the Centre for Endocrinology and Metabolism, has been recognised for his extraordinary contributions to Australian communities. Professor Fuller was awarded a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for his for significant service to medicine as an endocrinologist, through contributions to medical research and professional organisations.
