More than 80,000 entrants took part in the annual Sydney City 2 Surf fun run on 14 August 2016. Among them was Catherine Laragy who ran the 14km race to raise money for research into paediatric cancer at the Hudson Institute.
Our thanks to Catherine and her wonderful supporters who raised almost $900.
Catherine is friends of Zac Mason and his family and Zac was her inspiration to run. In 2012 Zac, aged just five years old, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an invasive and rapidly growing tumour and the most common malignant brain tumour in children in Australia.
Zac was treated through a collaboration of highly skilled researchers at the Hudson Institute and dedicated clinicians.
At Hudson Institute our Paediatric Cancer Research Program (PCRP) brings researchers and clinicians together to improve outcomes for children, like Zac, who are diagnosed with cancer. Medulloblastoma is one of the key priorities of the PCRP.

Impressively, Catherine ran in grey business clothes to help promote awareness of the urgent need to raise funds for paediatric cancer research. Grey is the colour that signifies brain cancer. Catherine and her support friends ran a solid race coming within the top 11% of women to cross the finish line in a notable one hour and 20 minutes.
