Rob Merriel, Business Development Director
Rob has a portfolio responsibility for Intellectual Property management and commercialisation at Hudson Institute. He has extensive experience in commercialisation, most recently as the Director of Business Development for Melbourne Health, where he was responsible for:
• Managing and licensing the Intellectual Property portfolio
• Engaging with venture capital funds (he was also a Director of 2 VC funds)
• Preparation of business cases and financial modelling for commercial initiatives
• Identification of industry engagement opportunities.
Rob also has detailed knowledge of clinical trials and human research ethics processes from his time working in the Research Directorate of the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Nadine Brew, Business Development Coordinator
Nadine contributes to invention disclosure assessments, proposal and contract preparation, marketing, technology development, financial analyses and IP management at Hudson Institute. Nadine’s research commercialisation knowledge includes completing an international Churchill travel fellowship on commercialisation in Germany, US and Singapore, as well as undertaking the Victorian government sponsored Molecules to Medicine research commercialisation program. She also completed a three month secondment to the Medical Research Commercialisation Fund, which invests in discoveries from Australian medical research institutes.
Nadine is jointly appointed as a commercialisation analyst at Monash Innovation and a member of the organising committee for Innovation Week. Held in partnership with the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, Innovation week brings together people from science, technology and business to support putting good science and research to use. Nadine completed a Ph.D. in neonatal lung injury at Monash University with the support of an NHMRC postgraduate scholarship and was previously a postdoctoral researcher in the Ritchie Centre and at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C.
