Celebrating a successful Rebecca L Cooper Foundation Grant

Congratulations to Dr Gina Kusuma, who has been awarded a two-year Rebecca L Cooper Medical Research Foundation Project Grant to investigate cell-free therapeutics which can mediate vascular regeneration in the aged population.
This represents a major achievement for Dr Kusuma, of the Amnion Cell Biology research group, who was awarded $100,000 over her two-year project in the Geriatrics category.
The 2020 Project Grants are designed to encourage early career researchers (ECRs) to take ownership of a discrete research project; providing a stepping stone towards independence. This year, 172 applications were received, with a 20 percent success rate.
“My objective is to formulate cell-free therapeutics and use this emerging form of regenerative medicine to improve treatment options, patient outcomes and patient treatment,” said Dr Kusuma.
“This will be a game changer, enabling deployment of regenerative medicine for this urgent unmet medical need across the community.”

Harnessing factors released by stem cells could provide an alternative therapeutic that can mediate vascular regeneration and treat these urgent medical needs affecting the aged population. Dr Kusuma’s objective is to formulate cell-free therapeutics and use this emerging form of regenerative medicine to improve treatment options and patient outcomes. This will be a game changer, enabling deployment of regenerative medicine for this urgent unmet medical need across the community.
