Biography

Dr Elisabeth Ng is a postdoctoral researcher in the Endocrine Hypertension Group and a consultant endocrinologist.

She completed her PhD at Monash University under the supervision of Prof Jun Yang, Prof Peter Fuller and Dr Stella-May Gwini. Her thesis, entitled ‘Primary Aldosteronism: New Strategies for Diagnosis and Management’, focused on improving the accessibility and efficiency of diagnosis for primary aldosteronism, including the evaluation of novel imaging techniques, as well as investigating aldosterone and renin profiles in the Indigenous Australian population. She also studied the effects of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists on gene expression in MR-expressing cell lines.

She spent a year as a clinical research fellow at Queen Mary University of London under the supervision of Prof Morris Brown and Prof William Drake, where she evaluated the effect of Cav1.3 inhibition on aldosterone production in vitro and in vivo and contributed to a randomised controlled trial of radiofrequency ablation compared with surgery for the treatment of aldosterone-producing adenomas.

Her postdoctoral research builds on previous work to improve the detection and treatment of primary aldosteronism, with a particular focus on women who have experienced hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
