Improving Detection and Management of Primary Aldosteronism in Australian Primary Care
Project description
Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common, and potentially curable, cause of hypertension, affecting up to 1 in 7 people with high blood pressure. Despite this, screening rates remain below 1% in primary care, leaving many patients at higher risk of cardiovascular complications.
The CONSEP Trial, an MRFF-funded, multidisciplinary, GP-led randomised controlled trial, is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Department of General Practice. This project aims to improve early detection and management of PA in Australian primary care using advanced clinical decision support software.
Project opportunities include:
- Evaluating the effectiveness and real‑world implementation of software‑based screening prompts
- Exploring patient experiences of PA and the diagnostic journey
- Investigating the system‑level burden and health outcomes associated with PA detection pathways
The candidate will be supervised by Professor Jun Yang and Professor Grant Russell, with co-supervisors from a leading multidisciplinary investigator team.
We welcome applicants from medicine, primary care, epidemiology, public health, health services research, behavioural science, and related fields.
