Project description

Gender identity is the gender with which a person identifies. Studies suggest that gender identity is affected by genetic, prenatal hormonal and/or postnatal social determinants. We are investigating the role of genes in people who experience gender incongruence/gender dysphoria. This project involves undertaking a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in the world’s largest cohort of transgender women. We have previously identified several gene variants associated with gender dysphoria in transgender women.
