Biography

Dr Maggie Lam is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research in the Centre of Innate Immunity and Infectious Disease. Her research focuses on understanding the immune mechanisms that drive chronic lung diseases, with the goal of developing new biomarkers and therapies for occupational and fibrotic lung disorders.

After completing her PhD in Respiratory Pharmacology at Monash University, Dr Lam joined Hudson Institute, where she led a research program investigating how innate immune pathways, particularly the NLRP3 inflammasome and neutrophils, contribute to lung injury and fibrosis following inhalation of hazardous particles such as silica.

Dr Lam’s research spans mechanistic immunology, preclinical disease modelling, and translational biomarker discovery. She has led the development of clinically relevant mouse models of silicosis and pulmonary fibrosis and collaborates closely with clinicians and researchers to translate laboratory discoveries into improved outcomes for people with occupational lung diseases.

Her research has been supported by competitive funding from the iCARE New South Wales Dust Diseases Board and Lung Foundation Australia. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in respiratory and immunology journals and is committed to mentoring early-career researchers and fostering collaborative, multidisciplinary research that advances the understanding and treatment of chronic lung disease.
