One of 36 biological scientists recognised in the recent round of ARC funding announced by the Minister for Education, the Honourable Christopher Pyne, MP, Dr Gantier received the award for his ongoing research investigating MicroRNAs, which control the use of genetic information to produce proteins. Changes to MicroRNA levels in the cells are associated with development of diseases such as cancers.

In this research, Dr Gantier is hoping to determine the stability of MicroRNAs within human cells and establish their usefulness as biomarkers for early diagnostic testing.
